VW T5 Diamond Washer & End cap

Camshaft gear diamond washer and end cap for VW T5 2.5 TDI PD engines. This two-part set is for work on the camshaft gear or for replacing the camshaft bore plug. It fits the 2.5-litre five-cylinder PD engine across both the early and later T5 engine codes listed below.

What is included?

• 1 × camshaft gear diamond washer — VW OE 070 109 421 A. The thin slotted friction washer fits in the camshaft drive gear assembly.
• 1 × camshaft end cap — VW OE 070 103 407. Also called a camshaft plug or bung seal; it closes the camshaft bore in the cylinder head.

When do you need only these two parts?

If your camshaft, injectors and intake manifold are staying in place but the camshaft drive gear is being removed for a gear or timing repair, you may need a new diamond washer without a full manifold gasket and injector seal kit. Volkswagen's 2.5 TDI repair instructions call for a new diamond-coated washer after removal. Reusing the old washer may prevent the drive gear from being secured properly to the camshaft.

The end cap is useful when the existing camshaft bore plug is leaking oil, damaged or removed during cylinder head work. If you are replacing only a leaking plug and have not disturbed the camshaft drive gear, the diamond washer does not need to be replaced for that reason alone. This listing supplies both small parts together so they are ready if your repair involves both areas.

Check the job before ordering: a full camshaft replacement may also require new bolts, bearings, lifters, injector seals and other gaskets. This two-part set does not replace those parts. Likewise, removing the intake manifold by itself does not require removing the camshaft gear or plug.
